This is my mother's old Nikon (a manual one, I looked it up, it is a Nikon FG - 1982!), she took up photography as a hobby in the past -- and then she got married.
Heh, I found this tucked away in one of her wardrobes so I decided to take some photos, I did attempt to turn it on but alas, no "on/off" button or toggle.
I did manage to get my father to take off the lens and let me have a peek inside (I get fascinated at SLRs, I have only ever had a bridge) but my own camera, ran out of battery.
Looking at this photo now, I'm not too keen on the angle I proposed but the other shots that I took are unfortunately blurred.
I am still not sure of the category I put it under, also -- I'm not spiffy with these things!
I have another macro shot of the actual lens that I may put up tomorrow.

So are you also a Nikon fan? Welcome to aminus3, Jenny!

@Shuva Brata Deb: I'm a new Nikon fan, unfortuantly - my mother thinks I'm too young to get one myself. (I'm interested in purchasing a Nikon D80, but that will probably happen in about five or ten years because I'm poor, haha) So, I'm just done pouring over images and hoping my mother can hook me up with someone who has some. :P
Thanks for the welcome!
I feel like I'm on "Punked" as I write this.
Your mother's old Nikon needs no on/off or toggle, as it's a purely mechanical device. I began my love of light with a Pentax of similar design in the 1980s.
Learn to use this machine, and you'll be blessed with a much broader understanding of the manipulation of light which far transcends the modern leap to pixels.
Ansel Adams needed no computer, nor did Michelangelo for that matter. The eye is the master of light; the tool with which we convey it's perception is photography. You might just as well use paint.
Don't get hung up on gear. Learn to control light, and you will convey the message of your images with ease.
I'm still learning, but that's the basic concept.

@Matt: I realised the on/off thing when I realised that you know, it was just.. there.. if that makes sense. :P
Thanks for the tips and the words - you've made me think a whole lot differently about photography.
Are you going to be taking some pictures with it? Sounds scary!

@Sheldon: I'll try to, heh, I'm going to have to get some new film and batteries though.
